Trade Academy 1912

High Economic School (HES) has a long history. It started to work in 1912 as Trade Academy. It survived two World Wars. During the latest war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, High Economic School was completely destroyed. Like the phonics. it rose from the ash and became stronger and more beautiful. With help of many friends the school was rebuilt. In summer, 1999, school has begun to implement a new “Business Programme” in corporation with Tiethgen Business College from Odense, Danmark. The new programme reduced the number of students and brought a new approach of studying economy. High-caliber students strongly motivated by a future career can attend this school. School has 28 classes with 24 pupils in each of them. Our school trains future economic technicians that after faculty can become economists, experts, managers and professors.

This programme actively contributes to successful and widely recognized reputation and quality of our school. Our school is the only one in Bosnia and Herzegovina that uses Danish curriculum with an interdisciplinary view of business economy. During the initial two-year period, students study more general subjects than specialized. Other specialized subjects will be added in coming two years. Students must follow a four-year program of education. After these four years and when students’ education has been achieved, students have to pass their Final exams. Defense of Final exams is the last stair to awarding the degree of Economic technician. Final students work with one of the teachers who guides and directs their research in one of these final exams: Marketing, Accounting or Mathematics. All of them are obliged to pass exams from Business Economy and mother language. Each year approximately 168 students finish this school. Professors pursue both theoretical and applied research in business administration and economics, in line with international standards of excellence. The diversity of their research reflects the needs arising from the current economic environment.

Schoolyard

Our curriculum meets the highest international standards. A carefully-structured curriculum guarantees the preparing our students for taking responsibilities as future business professionals. The goal is to prepare students to advance knowledge and play an active role in the society. During attending this school students will learn business economy, marketing; EU and international corporation; business administration; bank-working system; business strategy; entrepreneurship; industrial organization; international economy; law; ;management systems; planning, budgeting, information systems; accounting, analyzing, etc. Our school is a fully-equipped institution (library, computer center, sports facilities, etc). Students have access to high quality research facilities: a library with 4,000 books, periodicals, working papers and 9 classrooms with a network of computers and 21 other classrooms. HES offers students materials, facilities, a wide range of equipment and an atmosphere that fosters research and good work. Students can spend their free time in many language, sport, economic and other clubs. Realization of many projects reflects students’ interest in making friendships and getting their knowledge. The Fair – Buy Domestic Products – many famous firms from B&H participated in this fair; about 5, 000 visitors saw the fair in our school. Our students represented these reputed companies.

Eco-net program implemented by Task Force Education and Youth for Eastern-southern Europe (students work in two virtual companies. They have corporation and business relation from similar companies in Europe)

Youth Enterprising (students produce different products; they do the complete economic administration then they show and sell their products at the Fair in our school or other schools).

The Week of the English Language is very popular among the schools in our region. Students have a good opportunity to speak English to meet each other and to show their creativities and knowledge.

Spring Day in Europe is one more project that has European character. Our school is one of 5.000 schools from Europe that participate in celebrating spring with European ideas of democracy, peace, good economy and standard of life.

Distance Learning Weeks: one in November and one in April. During distance learning week students stay at home and study all subjects as they would usually in the classroom. Students decide what to learn and when. They’re also being tested so we can evaluate the results of distance learning.
